ABRASION RESISTANCE (Grit Feeder System) - EN 660-2:1999

1.  TOOLS
1.1 Balance accurate to 0.1 mg
1.2 Taber abrader
1.3 An appropriate grit feeder
1.4 S-41 grit
1.5 An appropriate set of wheels
1.6 Leather strips
1.7 Two 1,000 g weights
1.8 An appropriate vacuum system

2. SAMPLING
3*100x100 mm samples

3. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Temperature: 23 (+/- 2) °C
Relative humidity: 50 (+/-) 5%

4.  TESTING PROCEDURE
4.1 Make sure the grit flows at a rate of 21+/-3 g per 60 cycles
4.2 Roughen the leather with sand paper #240

4.3 Check density of wear layer

4.4 Weight the sample to an accuracy of 0.1 mg after conditioning

4.5 Abrade one sample during 5000 cycles, with a break for weighing after each 1000 cycles, and then test the two remaining samples. If, however, the first sample is abraded through before 5000 cycles, discard it and test the two remaining samples with each 200 cycles stopping the test after 2000 cycles or when the sample is abraded through

4.6 Clean and weigh the sample after every stop to an accuracy of 0.1mg. After abrasion, clean the sample with white cotton cloth moistened with distilled water.

4.7 Weigh the test sample a last time with an accuracy of 0.1 mg to obtain the total mass loss. Then calculate the average mass loss in milligrams per 100 cycles for each sample, and the loss of volume for each sample for 100 cycles, rounded to one decimal place
