RESISTANCE TO STAINING EN 423:2002 (adapted)

1. TOOLS
1.1 Pipettes
1.2 Untreated glass fibre fabric, of mass per unit area 300-400 g/m2 and diameter approximately 40 mm
1.3 Standard cleaning and stain removal products (white cotton, brushes, warm water to be used alone or with cleaning agents)
1.4 Substances agreed by parties, e.g.:

  • White vinegar (5% acetic acid)
  • Rubbing alcohol (70% isopropyl alcohol)
  • White mineral oil (medicinal grade)
  • Sodium hydroxide solution (5% NaOH)
  • Hydrochloric acid solution (% Hcl)
  • Sulfuric acid solution (5% H2SO4)
  • Household ammonia solution (5% NH4OH)
  • Household bleach (5.25% NaOCl)
  • Olive oil (light)
  • Kerozene (K1)
  • Unleaded gasoline (regular grade)
  • Phenol (5% active phenol)

1.5 Abrasives
1.6 Vertical illumination device

2. SAMPLING
1*800 mm * plank width (or shorter provided area is sufficient to place all reagents). The sample shall be representative of the material.
Identify the positions corresponding to each of the substances (this can be done on the sample proper or on a plastic template)

3. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
No particular conditioning is necessary, but testing should be performed un 23(+/-2)℃ and 50(+/-5)% relative humidity conditions

4. TESTING PROCEDURE
4.1 Place the untreated glass fibre fabric on the surface of the test specimen and saturate it with 1-2 ml of the test liquid. Leave the fabric in place for the duration of the test



4.2 The standard contact duration shall be 2 h. If a stain appears on the test piece after 2 h, a new test shall be conducted for a period of 30 min
4.3 Before cleaning, remove stains which are still liquid with cotton, working from the edge towards the centre of the stain

4.4 After cleaning has been carried out, examine the residual staining from a distance of approximately 800 mm at an approximate angle of 45° and from all directions

4.5 If a stain is visible, rub it down with a mild abrasive material or a cleaning product recommended by the manufacturer, and examine as described in 4.4
4.6 Express the results in accordance with the table below:
