DEEP SCRATCH RESISTANCE (MANUAL SCLEROMETER) PRIVATE STANDARD

1. TOOLS
1.1 Manual sclerometer with a 0.75 mm diameter carbide tip
1.2 Absorbent cotton or soft cloth
      
2. SAMPLING
Any sample wish sufficient area to perform the test

3. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Condition the sample on a flat surface for 24 hours at 23(+/-2)°C and 50(+/-5)% relative humidity

4. TESTING PROCEDURE
4.1 Clean the sample with absorbent cotton or soft cloth

4.2 Hold the sclerometer vertical to the surface being tested

4.3 Apply sufficient downward force to compress the spring by approximately 2 mm


4.4 Drag the sclerometer’s tip in a zigzag fashion

4.5 Rub the surface with a soft cloth; observe under sufficient D65 Average North Sky Daylight, and determine whether the coating has become gouged

4.6 Determine the highest N value at which no scratches occur
