FORMALDEHYDE EMISSION - GB/T 24508-2009, GB18580-2001 and GB/T17657-1999 (4.12) (adapted)

1. TOOLS
1.1 Equipment for drying wood, ensuring free internal circulation of air and capable of maintaining a temperature
of 103 (+/-2) ℃
1.2 Constant temperature water tank
1.3 Spectrophotometer
1.4 Electric cooker
1.5 Electronic scale
1.6 40 L desiccator
1.7 Aluminum foil tape
1.8 Ventilator
1.9 13 types of chemicals: sodium thiosulfate, anhydrous sodium carbonate, mercuric iodide, potassium dichromate, potassium iodide, hydrochloric acid, starch solution, formaldehyde solution, iodine, sodium hydroxide or caustic, sulfuric acid, acetylacetone, ammonium acetate
1.10 Chemical glassware
1.11 Distilled water

2. SAMPLING
1*300x 150 mm or one sample with 450 cm2

3. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Temperature: 20 (+/-1) ℃

4. TESTING PROCEDURE
4.1 Prepare sodium thiosulfate solution and brew for 8-10 days
4.2 Calibrate the sodium thiosulfate solution to C1=G (V/1000x49.04)=G/(Vx0.04904)
4.3 Prepare starch solution
4.4 Prepare formaldehyde solution
4.5 Calibrate the formaldehyde solution to C2=(V0-V)x15xC1x1000/20
4.6 Cover the sample’s edges and back with aluminum foil tape




4.7 Place the sample in the desiccator with a container of distilled water at the bottom


4.8 Withdraw the distilled water container after 24 hours
4.9 Test every solution and the distilled water in the spectrophotometer




4.10 Obtain the results curve “f”

4.11 Calculate the formaldehyde emission content C3 = fx(As-Ab)

5. ASSESSING TEST RESULTS
Passing requirement:
E0≤0.5 mg/L
E1≤1.5 mg/L
